Briar Rose Bed and Breakfast is just steps away from everything there is to do in Boulder--yet it’s light years away from the typical B & B. This “green” hotel, named “Top of the Rocky” in 2006 by The Rocky Mountain News, generously surrounds its guests in comfort while treading lightly on the environment. Featuring six rooms in the main house and four rooms in the Carriage House, this flower-festooned bed and breakfast also provides modern conveniences such as WiFi and vegan and other special-needs breakfast options.

The B & B’s elegant yet comfortable rooms are appointed with overstuffed chairs and timeless antiques. Many of the rooms are graced by hand-painted accents on the walls, and wood-burning fireplaces, balconies and private sitting areas are available. In keeping with the “green” theme, the sumptuous beds feature organic cotton sheets from Coyuchi, and the private bathrooms come complete with rain showers and containers of Kiss My Face and Shikai bath products that are refilled, rather than thrown away. Those who wish to mix business with pleasure have access to two guest computers and fax and copy services.

Innkeepers Gary Hardin, a Zen monk, and Chip Horner have incorporated earth-friendly practices into almost every aspect of their inn. Their full, organic breakfast is meat-free and features exceptional produce from local natural-foods outlet the Boulder Co-op Market. Recycling and composting are practiced on-site--in fact, the Briar Rose was honored by Eco-Cycle as an “Exceptional Zero Waste Partner.” Thanks to its central location, guests may not even need cars--the inn is within walking distance to shopping, movies, restaurants, the Farmers Market and more.
