Gay Bars in Denver
For a gay bar scene with both Wrangler-wearing cowboys and cool club kids under the same roof, the Denver gay bars have all the action. Gay men here are more likely to have toned and outdoorsy gym bodies than in other mid-West cities and the Abercrombie-style prep look dominates the gay male bar and club scene. Oddly, lesbians dominate the social scene in much of Denver not only in a variety of bars catering strictly to women, but also through local sports teams, and hiking and athletic clubs in nearby mountain towns like Boulder. Many of Denver’s gay bars have a relaxed, neighborhood feel and are welcoming to people of all sexualities. The genders come together at local Country and Western bars where drag kings and queens belt out Conway Twitty and Martina McBride alike. Denver’s bohemian Capital Hill neighborhood is decidedly gay friendly and hosts the annual Denver PrideFest parade, a two-day event that’s arguably one of the top pride festivals in the United States.
