About Global Energy Management Program

The GEM Program offers graduate business and leadership education for the energy industry. Professionals from around the world can enroll in the MS degree program because of its hybrid-online delivery.

There is no better place to learn about the business of energy. The Global Energy Management (GEM) Program offered through the University of Colorado Denver Business School is a graduate business and leadership degree program exclusively designed for the energy industry. GEM’s curriculum offers courses such as: finance, accounting, marketing, organizational leadership, and strategic planning that are solely focused on energy. The program has a global perspective and covers all sectors of the industry (traditional, renewable, alternative and unconventional). GEM’s focus is to provide highly-relevant, applicable and current course material that students can use on the job the next day. This integration of theory with real-world practice is possible because of the expertise of our faculty; 87% of whom have extensive experience working in the energy industry. In addition, GEM’s curriculum was developed and is continuously vetted by our industry partnerships to ensure that we offer the most relevant education needed to develop the next generation of energy industry leaders.

GEM’s hybrid-online (or blended) approach to delivering courses was developed for the busy, working professional. With this approach, students gain the benefits of both in-person and online learning. Students travel to Denver at the beginning of every quarter (once every three months) for four days of classroom instruction. This is attractive to both students and employers because it minimizes time away from the office (classes are held Friday, Saturday, Sunday and Monday). Upon completion of the first four days, students return home and continue the rest of the course work online. Energy professionals from around the world enroll in GEM because of the accessibility hybrid-online delivery provides.

Upon completion of the program, students will gain the business acumen and leadership abilities needed to get that “next promotion” or “new position” in the energy industry. Students will complete 36 semester hour credits to earn a Master of Science (MS) in Global Energy Management. GEM offers three different enrollment options to meet the educational needs of a diverse student body.
